 What does the framers of the Constitution say about the qualifications for the President of the U.S.?

The framers of the U.S. Constitution laid out the qualifications for the presidency in Article II, Section 1, Clause 5. They were quite deliberate in setting a high bar, but not an aristocratic one. Here’s what they required:

🏛️ Constitutional Qualifications

To be eligible for the office of President, a person must:

  • Be a natural-born citizen of the United States (or a citizen at the time the Constitution was adopted)

  • Be at least 35 years old

  • Have been a resident of the United States for at least 14 years

These were the only formal qualifications the framers included—no requirement for wealth, religion, or even education. That was a radical departure from European norms at the time.

Let's fast forward to the here and now of the Modern Era for the Leadership as POTUS {President Of The United States}

We have been fortunate enough to have some experienced, well-heeled leaders among the highest for the position of POTUS  in America, to name a few:

John F. Kennedy, is known for the advent and difficulties of the rift with Castro of Cuba, namely The Bay of Pigs. We still mourn the memory of his fatal demise in his assassination

Bill Clinton served two terms and holds the distinction of being the first to lead and leave the office with a Balanced Budget, even though he went through some other types of difficulty and  challenges during his two terms as U.S. leader, Front & Center as the POTUS

Barack Obama, The First Person Of Color and of African descent to hold the leadership position as POTUS, as he, too, like Clinton, served two terms. I would be remiss if I omitted mentioning that he faced a major dilemma and difficulty from the GOP side of the aisle. The challenges he faced looked and felt like the Manacle Chains of Racial Discrimination Practices of the throwback of Jim Crow Laws of the segregated Southern States during the 1960s. Nevertheless, his eight years of leadership exuded Class, Style, Competence--No Drama, just real results in the throes of disrespect and hatred. In spite of the dilemma they faced, he and Michele led with heartfelt intelligence. We were so proud of the eight straight years of Growth and Development without a trace of Scandals. Hint, Hint, Hint...

Next up was Joe Biden, who served admirably as the U.S. VP alongside POTUS Obama. Biden only served one term as POTUS,  and he left the office and the economy in rather  Good Shape and Position. Only to have the Office of the presidency of the U.S. and the Economy put it in utter shambles in less than 100 days by the  Trumpster and his under-qualified, inept, ill-prepared Administration. #NUFFSED#
