POETIC STANZA: Yes Poetry Does Matter

The evocative, sometimes riveting narrative utterance of a situation one has endured in life is penned in words to share with others. On many occasions, it tends to err on the side of un-pleasant encounters and/or dire straits circumstances while enduring the path on the journey in life.

Today, I reflect and am remembering one of my favorite, the late Maya Angelou, who would have been celebrating her 93rd birth anniversary on planet Earth. She was an African American poet, author, and learned scholarly collegiate professor. She was held in the highest esteem as she left an indelible and extraordinary comprehensive ‘body of work”. I hasten to add, she was best known in her 1969 autobiography, “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sing”

Mayo endured a plethora of unpleasant situational encounters in her Earthly Sojourn of life. However, she did not let it make her bitter, nor did she embrace or tolerate vulgarity. Why not you may think? Here are a few narrative utterances of discourse that should shed light on why she did not resort to taking the low road, but instead always focus on Going High.

Maya concerning being bitter

“You should be angry-But not bitter, because ‘Bitterness’ is like cancer. It eats upon the host. It doesn’t do anything to the object of its displeasure. So use that anger in ways to diffuse the entirety of the matter. You write it, You paint it, You dance it, You march it, You vote it, You do everything about it, and you even talk it. Never Stop Talking It.”

Maya on the Use, and Tolerate of Vulgarity

“If we use or tolerate vulgarity our future will sway and fall under the burden of ignorance. It need not be so. We have the brains and heart to face our future bravely. Taking responsibility for the time we take up and the space we occupy”

Thoughts of the Heart

“I have learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart I usually make the right decision. It is important to rid yourself of pride and allow your heart to flow from humility, vulnerability, and courage”

Joy of Forgiveness

“Learn to forgive yourself for not knowing what you did not know before you actually learned it”

In conclusion, be constantly aware that this Earthy Sojourn is not permanent. We are just passing through. Therefore, keep the following three things in your ‘front-of-mind-consciousness’:

·        When confused and things seem hopeless-keep moving do not allow yourself to get in the way, to give in or to give up

·        When your view seems a  bit fuzzy and the natural eye cannot see or provide the substance to guide you-it is then when you must be resigned to ‘Walk by Faith’

·        When you find yourself feeling out of sorts in the midst of stressfulness, anxiety, frustration, and emotions are in a State-of-Flucks. It would be both prudent and wise to reach out to touch and connect to somebody else. Because working together in collaborate mode is always better. During such mode and genre of working together, it ushers in another listening ear. Then you can discern what to tell everybody about somebody who can help you connect to Repentance. To gain Deliverance, as you grasp Redemption, in order to become the Embodiment of a new creature in Christ. This allows the opportunity to stand in the Gap, as an Intercessor to serve all humanity. Such noble worthwhile cause shall  most assuredly bring to the forefront a bonus and the award for the Bestowal of the Enormities of Abundant Blessings from Almighty God
